My girlfriend at the time and I saw Journey during this exact concert tour in Charlotte, October 1981. I was 16. Attending concerts was the think we really enjoyed doing together. Journey, Styx, Rush, Foreigner, REO Speedwagon. It was a great time to be alive. The music. Love was better. Relationships were closer. People were happier. Life was more relaxed. Well, her family comes from the area where th3 Dave's were sold, so the common sense analysis would be that her family is one of the ones who sold slaves. FACTS. It’s like that story about needing to clear swamp land in Florida and the reporter asked the plantation owner if he would use his black slaves to clear the land. To which he replied hell no they have value we will hire the Irish nobody cares if they die in there. I paid good money for my slaves I’m not sending them into that swamp full of alligators. That’s what the Irish are for. Same types of things were also said of the Chinese. Slavery was wrong for everyone. It was considered indentured servitude for most of the people even the blacks until a Black slave owner won a court case where he was able to get the judge to agree that the black slave was different from all other indentured servitude type slaves in that the black slave had no rights at all and should only be owned. I forget the name of this lawsuit but it was based on a slave that ran away to work for another master because the Black Master was so mean to him. And the other Master even tried to settle the cost for the runaway but that’s where the lawsuit came in and the claim that the black slave specifically had no rights at all. Pretty crazy outcome when you think about it since the claimant was a black Master. Whole thing was nuts. So 400,000 plus mostly white people killed each other in the civil war to undue such laws. And I hope we all appreciate that sacrifice for doing what was right even if it took some time after the constitution was ratified to get it done. Now if we could just get the black population to believe they have value and deserve a great life if they work for the American dream just like every other American needs to. Some day hopefully they can actually put that past behind them and thrive the way God expects every human to do. I feel we have lost the fathers and the black family of the 50’s is gone. Need to find a way to get those values and morals back. And raise up that Tuskegee generation again.
